Family Ficathon Rules
I love to read about boys and girls in love. But I also love to read about the relationships outside of the big gay romance. So, let's write some stories about Clark and his mom, or the quasi-paternal relationship between Harry and Sirius, or the quasi-sibling relationship between the various Robins.

Some rules:

1) No incest. The point of this is to explore those intense but non-sexual relationships.
2) You have to pick one each of Family by Law and Family By Choice. By Law means all blood relatives, all in-laws, adopted parents/children, and the turning/siring relationship. So, Darla counts as Spike's great-great-grandmother. It doesn't include student/teacher relationships of any kind, so Master/Padawan winds up under Family By Choice.
3) 500 words, minimum.
4) If you pick a small fandom, either recruit friends in that fandom or pick a backup character in a larger fandom.
ETA5) Let me know as soon as possible if you will not complete your story or will not complete on time
ETA6) Participants are only required to use one of the family members listed in their story, although, the more the merrier.
ETA7) It is fine to include romantic content (slash or het) in the story, but the focus of the story should be on the familial relationship.

Actually, in toonverse, Bruce adopts Tim after "Shifty" is killed, so he qualifies as Family by Law too. Babs and Alfred (and Dick!) would still be Family by Choice.

I like this idea a lot, Zvi! I also pimped it out in my lj.

I'm trying to figure this out-- would Ryan on the OC be considered Seth's family by choice or law...because the Cohens have taken over guardianship...

I lean towards choice because the guardianship seems to be relatively easy severable. Sandy said that one more fight in Chino would send Ryan back to juvie, so I think it's closer to a foster parent situation than adoptive.

Aren't the Dursely's Harry's family by law ? Is it that we're only required to write one each of each family member (by choice and law) or that each submittee is offering their view of their character's family ?

What you're doing is listing the members of the BSO's family that you want to read a story about the BSO interacting with. I want there to be at least two, so the writer has a bit of choice.

Don't know enough about Sandman to know if you are stretching it with the family of choice interpretation. Probably, you will end up being assigned to someone on the basis of your HP request, unless you recruit some Sandman fans to the ficathon.
