Family Ficathon 2004 is open for business.

I bitched and whined about it a lot. (To the roommate, not so much in lj) It was fun to get these stories. I may even get time to read them this week. I confess, I was mostly skimming, looking to turn ... into … and -- into —. But, sheila, dude, I do love my story. Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking on a fandom you are only passingly familiar with.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who got theirs in on time, and to the three people so far who have done pinch hitting. witchwillow, vissy, and voleuse, y'all rock!

Two people do not yet have stories. The people to whom your requests were assigned had contacted me at the beginning of the week to say they would be late but they were still turning something in. I would still really like the stories from the people who were originally given the assignments, but I'm going to backup writers now. Hopefully, by next Sunday.

I'm probably going to do this again next year, so keep an eye out.

Your Family Ficathon stories are due on July 24.

You have all been sent your Family Ficathon assignments. If you have not received yours, please e-mail me right away. If you have received yours and you can no longer participate, please let me know right away.

A few points of clarification

1) 500 words should be e-mailed to me by July 24. I prefer to get it in a text file attachment, but if you have difficulties with attachments, you can put it in the body of an e-mail. Word docments are not okay.

2) Some of you may have received information for more than one fandom. This does not mean you must write two stories, just that you should pick one. If you want to write two, or if you can think of some way to combine, then I salute you and look forward to reading what you've got.

3) The story should be about your recipient's chosen character and at least one of the characters identified as family. The relationship between those two should *not* be sexual but should be emotionally-charged. It would be better if you could avoid depicting as sexual the relationships between the chosen character and any of the other characters identified as family, but if you must, you must.

4) Let me know the instant you realize you can't finish the assignement by July 24.

Thank you all for participating. Eighteen stories should be rolled out for your pleasure on August 1.

7) It is fine to include romantic content (slash or het) in the story, but the focus of the story should be on the familial relationship.

I love to read about boys and girls in love. But I also love to read about the relationships outside of the big gay romance. So, let's write some stories about Clark and his mom, or the quasi-paternal relationship between Harry and Sirius, or the quasi-sibling relationship between the various Robins.

Some rules:

1) No incest. The point of this is to explore those intense but non-sexual relationships.
2) You have to pick one each of Family by Law and Family By Choice. By Law means all blood relatives, all in-laws, adopted parents/children, and the turning/siring relationship. So, Darla counts as Spike's great-great-grandmother. It doesn't include student/teacher relationships of any kind, so Master/Padawan winds up under Family By Choice.
3) 500 words, minimum.
4) If you pick a small fandom, either recruit friends in that fandom or pick a backup character in a larger fandom.
